Every analytics agent on the market is judged the same way: how often does it get the right answer? Benchmarks, evals, procurement checklists…accuracy is the metric everyone reaches for. It’s also, we’ve come to believe, wrong. The deeper problem is that real business questions aren’t trivia. “Why were these 98 deals refunded incorrectly?” doesn’t have a single correct answer. It has better and worse ones, and getting there takes judgment. We’ve spent the last two years building an analytics agent at Hex, and along the way, we ran headlong into these challenges and some uncomfortable findings. This talk is about what we learned building for this reality, and what it means for how you should actually evaluate and use analytics agents.
